Red Sox acquire infielder Zack Short from New York Mets

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today acquired infielder Zack Short from the New York Mets, in exchange for cash considerations. Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.

Short, 28, was designated for assignment by the Mets on April 26. The right-handed hitter played in 10 games with New York this season, making all three of his starts at third base. Originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the New York native has batted .172 (68-for-395) with 13 home runs and eight stolen bases in 189 career games with the Detroit Tigers (2021-23) and Mets (2024), making 62 career starts at shortstop, 28 at second base, and 23 at third base. In addition, Short has played 8.0 innings in the outfield and made six pitching appearances. A product of Sacred Heart University, he played for the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League in 2014 and the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2015.
